"Founded in 1928 as an outcome of the music conference that was held in conjunction with the All India Congress Session in Madras city the previous year, it was conceived to be the institution that would set the standard for Carnatic music."

The Music Academy, is organizing Group Singing Devotional Music Competition under an endowment instituted by Rukmini Arts & Music Trust, from 9.00 a.m onwards on Sunday, October 18 2015 at Kasturi Srinivasan Hall of The Music Academy, Madras.

Groups comprising of 3 to 10 members above 15 years including accompanist, desirous of participating may register themselves by sending particulars of their Group of and the compositions they propose to present. They will have to bring their own accompaniments and sing 3 compositions for a duration not exceeding 15 minutes.

The first two winners will be provided with cash awards and an opportunity to sing during the December season at the morning sessions.

Last date for registration is October 13, 2015.

We are looking for a retired Librarian with knowledge of computer skills, preferably not above the age of 65, who has passion for books and willing to organize, catalogue and arrange books and take care of the treasure that we have.

The Music Academy Awards 2015

At its meeting held today, 21st June 2015, the Executive Committee of the Music Academy has unanimously chosen the outstanding and widely acclaimed Carnatic musician Shri Sanjay Subrahmanyan for the prestigious "Sangita Kalanidhi" Award and for presiding over the 89th Annual Conference of the Music Academy to be held from 15th December 2015 to 1st January 2016.  Shri Sanjay Subrahmanyan is a vocalist par excellence and the torch bearer of his generation of Carnatic musicians. At the young age of forty-seven, he joins the illustrious line of stalwarts who had received this coveted award before they turned fifty, like Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Musiri Subramania Iyer, Maharajapuram Viswanathan Iyer, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, G.N.Balasubramaniam, M.L.Vasanthakumari, M.Balamuralikrishna and a few others. He will be conferred the "Sangita Kalanidhi" title at the Sadas on 1st January 2016.
