PRESS RELEASE

The Executive Committee of the Music Academy at its meeting held on 17th July 2011 has unanimously chosen Mridangam maestro Prof. Trichy Sankaran to preside over the 85th Annual Conference of the Music Academy to be held from 15th December 2011 to 1st January 2012. He will be conferred the "Sangita Kalanidhi" title at the Sadas on 1st January 2012.

The Committee also decided to confer the following awards during the 85th Conference.

1.	Sanqita Kala Acharva: 2 Awards Smt. Neela Ramgopal (Vocalist) Smt. Rama Ravi (Vocalist)
2.	T.T.K. Awards: 2 Awards Shri Mayavaram Somasundaram (Kanjira) Smt. T.R. Navaneetham (Flute)

The Pappa Venkataramiah award for violin is being given to Shri Trivandrum Subramania Sarma.

The awards will be conferred at the Sadas on 1st January 2012.

The newly instituted Natya Kala Acharya Award for Dance would go to Bharatanatyam exponent Dr. Padma Subramanyam. This award will be given away at the inaugural function of the Dance Festival on 3rd January 2012.
