PRESS RELEASE

The Executive Committee of the Music Academy at its meeting held on 18th July 2010 has unanimously chosen Bombay Sisters Smt. C.Saroja and Smt. C.Lalitha to preside over the 84th Annual Conference of the Music Academy to be held from 15th December 2010 to 1st January 2011.  They will be conferred the “Sangita Kalanidhi” title at the Sadas on 1st January 2011.  This is the second time that the Academy is conferring the prestigious “Sangita Kalanidhi” award on a duo simultaneously, the previous duo being Sikkil Sisters in 2002.  The Academy’s Annual conference and concerts will be inaugurated by Mr. Shiv Nadar, Chairman of the HCL group on December 15, 2010.
The Committee also decided to confer the following awards during the 84th Conference.
1.         Sangita Kala Acharya: 2 Awards
Smt. Suguna Varadachari (Vocalist)
Smt. Rhadha (Dance Guru)

2.         T.T.K. Awards: 2 Awards 
            Manakkkal Shri S. Rangarajan (Vocalist)
            Smt. Parassala Ponnammal (Vocalist)
3.         Musicologist Award: 
            Dr. R.Sathyanarayana
The Pappa Venkataramiah award for violin is being given to Smt. Radha Narayanan.
The awards will be conferred at the Sadas on 1st January 2011 which will be presided over by the Nobel Laureate, Dr. Venkataraman Ramakrishnan..
