SANGITA SAMPRADAYA PRADARSHINI – ENGLISH TRANSLATION PROJECT

The Sangita Sampradaya Pradarshini (SSP) of Subbarama Dikshitar in TELUGU was first published in 1904 in 2 volumes. Later The Andhra Pradesh Sangita Nataka Academy revised and published the SSP in 4 volumes with Sangita Kalanidhi Sri. Rallapalli Anatha Krishna Sarma as the Editor in 1979.

The Music Academy translated SSP into Tamil and published it in 5 volumes beginning from 1961. Based on this translation, Sri. PP Narayana Swamy with a band of scholars published a web version in English. It was felt by the Music Academy, that there is no error free authentic English version available to the students and scholars of music. It therefore constituted an Editorial Board comprising veteran and young musicians and musicologists to undertake the project of translating the complete SSP of Subbarama Dikshitar in 4 Volumes each consisting of 18 mela-s under the editorship of Dr.Pappu Venugopala Rao, a well known Sanskrit and Telugu Scholar and a musicologist besides.
