Title : Tana: Its impact on raga grammar and aesthetics
Abstract :
The Saraswathi Veena is perhaps one of the few instruments that can portray melody and rhythm at the same time. Tanam is a melo rhythmic improvised musical entity that requires just the right mix of melody with a free flowing rhythm. Tanam has its own distinct identity and should be approached very differently from a slightly faster raga Alapana. The combinations of notes in a Tanam brings out the grammar of the ragam and creates a different persona for the particular Ragam. This aspect will be the highlight of the talk.
